Quick Start Guide
Quick Start Guide: Your First Week in CattleMax
Welcome to CattleMax! Getting started doesn't have to be overwhelming. Focus on these three steps during your first week to build a solid foundation for your herd records.
Step 1: Add Your Inventory
Your inventory is the foundation of everything else you'll do in CattleMax. Before recording breedings, pasture moves, treatments, or other records, add the animals currently in your operation.
There are three ways to add inventory:
- Enter animals individually
- Bulk add animals
- Import animals using a spreadsheet

Step 2: Add Users and Customize Your Account
If multiple people help manage your records, now is the time to add them to your account. You can also review your account settings and choose how you want information displayed throughout CattleMax.
Common setup tasks include:
- Adding additional users
- Set user permissions
- Selecting your primary animal ID
- Reviewing herd and account settings
Taking a few minutes to customize your account now can save time later.

Step 3: Set Up Pastures and Record Current Activity
Once your inventory is entered and your account is configured, begin organizing your operation and recording current information.
Examples include:
- Setting up pastures
- Recording breeding exposures
- Assigning animals to groups
- Adding contacts
- Recording current herd health information

Historical Records Can Wait
Many new customers feel like they need to enter years of historical data before they can start using CattleMax. That's not necessary.
Once your inventory, users, and current records are in place, you can add historical information over time, including:
- Previous calving records
- Historical breeding records
- Past weights
- Health treatments
Start with what's happening today and add historical records as time allows.
