Setting Up Pastures in CattleMax

Pastures in CattleMax help you organize your cattle, track activities, and manage your ranch, all from one place. This guide walks you through creating, mapping, and importing pastures to get set up quickly.

Pasture Setup

Setting up a pasture in CattleMax takes just a few steps:

  1. Create the pasture
  2. Map pasture boundaries manually or by importing a KMZ file.

Once set up, you can manage animals, breeding, hay production, and more directly from the pasture.

Step 1: Create a Pasture

To add a pasture:

  • Go to the Pastures tab
  • Click New Pasture

Enter details like:

  • Name
  • Category (grazing, haying, corral, etc.)
  • Premise ID (optional)
  • Forage type and notes

Acreage will automatically calculate once a map is added.

Click Create Pasture when finished.

Step 2: Add a Map (not required)

You can draw your pasture directly on the map:

  • Click to place points around the pasture boundary
  • Continue clicking to outline the shape
  • Click back on the starting point to complete the map

Once finished:

  • Acreage is automatically calculated
  • Save to attach the map to your pasture

You can also add or edit a map later from the pasture’s Edit screen.

Import a Pasture Map (KMZ File):

If you already have pasture boundaries (from Google Earth or GIS tools), you can import them:

  • Go to the Pastures page
  • Click Import Data
  • Upload your .kmz file
  • Review boundaries and click Save

What You Can Do Next

Once your pasture is set up, you can:

  • Add and move animals
  • Track hay production and maintenance
  • Turn bulls in/out for breeding
  • Record notes, tasks, and activities
