Understanding Criteria Based Active Cattle Groups

Active Cattle Groups (such as Active Cows, Active Bulls, Active Calves, and Active Cattle) are designed to display animals in your herd that are currently marked as active.

These groups provide a simple, all-inclusive view of your herd, making it easy to stay organized. They can also be used to keep different segments of your herd separated, if desired.

Not seeing your cattle within a group?

If animals don’t appear in your Active Groups, the most common reason is that additional criteria have been applied to the group.

When extra filters are applied, only animals that meet all conditions will be shown in the group. Don’t worry, the animals are still within your account.

Default Criteria for Active Groups.

When you first set up your CattleMax account, a set of default groups was already on the Cattle screen, each with default criteria.

For best results, Active Groups should include the following criteria:

  • Status = Active
  • Animal Type = Cow, Bull, or Calf (or leave blank to include all types)

Tip from the team: Adding more criteria than shown above can filter animals out of view. Don’t forget, the criteria determined which animals are filtered in (and out) of the group.

How to check your group criteria.

To review the filters on an Active Group:

  1. Open the Active Group (Active Cows, Active Bulls, etc.)
  2. Review the criteria set for the group

If an animal does not meet all of the listed criteria, it will not appear within the group.

How to change the criteria of an Active Group:

  1. Open the Group
  2. Click on the “Edit Group” button in the upper right
  3. Review and edit criteria
  4. To reset the group to default criteria, select only:
    1. Status = Active
    2. Animal Type = Cow, Bull, Calf (or leave this blank for all types)
  5. Save the changes

Tip From the Team: If you’d like to filter animals further than the default Active Group criteria, consider creating a separate custom group! Groups in CattleMax
