International Brangus Breeders Association (IBBA)

International Brangus Breeders Association (IBBA) Interface with CattleMax

As a registered plan CattleMax customer and member of the International Brangus Breeders Association, you can save yourself time and effort by using the following features.

  • Import your breed association cattle records into CattleMax
  • Sync the association data with your animals in CattleMax who have matching registration numbers
  • Update herd EPDs

The Herd Inventory file is a copy of your active cattle records, 3 generation pedigrees, current weight information in the IBBA file, and current EPDs and Indexes as previously submitted to the association.

The EPD file contains a current copy of your registered active animals’ EPDs and is commonly downloaded when new EPDs are released by the Association.

Important Items to Note:

  • If importing records, please wait until the import process is complete before entering any records into your CattleMax Online account.
  • Do not open any files from the association prior to importing them into CattleMax as this will likely lead to information being imported incorrectly.  If you have opened it, please re-download the file and start the process again with the re-downloaded file.
  • If you are not able to see the option for entering a registration number on an individual animal, please update your account settings. (Customizing CattleMax / Account Settings - click here.)

How do I obtain the file from the Breed Association for import into CattleMax?

The IBBA’s Brangus REGSTR database allows for members to download their herd inventory file.

1.  Go to www.gobrangus.com then click/touch Member Portal.

Log into your REGSTR account, then, on the left side, click/touch the dropdown, select Animal Data Export.

2.  Go to the address bar of your browser page and select (by dragging cursor over the information):

5.  Copy this:  $('input[type="checkbox"]').each(function(){$('input:checkbox').prop('checked',true);});

6. Then go to the browser address bar and type the word (including the colon)  javascript:  Paste the above in the front of the string by using CTRL-V on a PC or  CMD-V on a Mac. After adding the text, press the enter key. This should check all of the checkboxes on the page.

NOTE:  Those users with a large animal database in the REGSTR file may need to limit the number of records which need to be gathered by using the date range picker to shrink the pool of animals and import in stages (or check only "Active" animals), import the inventory in stages.  A large number of animals in the download may cause a timeout condition during the download.

Scroll to the bottom of the page, click/touch the Download Excel/CSV file button.

The downloaded file will be named animals.csv

NOTICEDo not open the downloaded file prior to importing!

  3. Choose International Brangus Breeders Association from under the Breed Interfaces section or Set Up a New Breed
  4. Be sure to notice the file format for each import section.  To import properly, your file must be in the format shown in CattleMax to import properly.
  5. Click browse (in the Import Herd Inventory section) then select the file you saved to your computer. (NOTE: Do not import a file that has been opened.)
  6. When available, consider using the Sync feature by placing a checkmark next to Sync. (See details below regarding this feature.)
  7. Click Import Animals to finish the task.
  8. NOTE: If importing records, please wait until the import is complete before entering any records into your CattleMax Account. If you do happen to have cattle already in the account, be sure each of those registered animals has the correct registration number entered in CattleMax to match the import registration number.
  9. You are now ready to import your herd inventory file into CattleMax. After clicking the Import button, you will receive a message saying that when the import is complete, you'll be notified by email.

I already have cattle in my CattleMax account. How do I use the Sync option?

The Sync option is available to allow adding new animal records to the CattleMax herd file or completing/updating current animal records (such as pedigree, performance, etc.).  CattleMax will match registration numbers for the file to be imported, so it is important the registration numbers in your CattleMax herd file EXACTLY match the IBBA records.

Registering calves with IBBA from my CattleMax file

1.  Go to Cattle (in your CattleMax), on the right side, under Industry Data Interfaces, click/touch International Brangus Breeders Association.

2.  When you get to the interface page, you'll see a list of calves eligible for registration.  If any of the calves show Error on their line, you'll need to Edit and enter the information which is missing (information IBBA requires for registering the calves).

3.  Once all errors are cured, there should be a checkbox beside the calf PH number.  You can click/touch the very top checkbox, to the left of PH #, to select all in the list, or check the box beside each of the calves you want to register.

4.  When that is done, go to the bottom and click/touch the Download Electronic Registration File of Selected Animals. It is best to download to your computer desktop so the file will be easy to find.

5.  Open IBBA website/REGSTR, go to Animals on the left, click/touch the dropdown and select Register.  When you get to the Registration Options page, choose (check boxes) to upload additional information, if you have it on your CattleMax file, such as Calving Ease and Udder information (for the dams). Then, click/touch the Proceed to Registration button.

6.  That will open a screen which has several icons across the upper portion. Select the one which has CSV on it.

When you click that, a screen will open allowing you to drag and drop the registration CSV file.  When that is done, you'll see all the calves shown, be able to correct anything you need, then you will click to submit the registrations.

Almost immediately, you will receive a message saying the calves have been registered and you will be given the opportunity to download a file named registrations.csv so you can import the registration numbers, etc. back into your CattleMax file.  Be careful and don't click out of the registration complete screen too quickly, because you only get one opportunity to download the registration file.

7.  Go back to CattleMax, IBBA interface, click the Import Registrations button and complete the process.

Your calves have been registered and their registration numbers entered into your CattleMax file.

How do I update my herd EPDs in CattleMax?

  2. Go to Options: Click here to View all My Options.
  3. Then, click/touch the black CattleMax/GEM EPDs button

After you download this file, which will be named animals.csv, open your CattleMax account, go to Cattle- View All Groups.
