Managing cattle for multiple owners

Recording ownership

CattleMax Commercial plans have a single field for owner and CattleMax Registered plans support multiple ownerships. With both plans, you can indicate the owner(s) of the animal where the owner corresponds to a Contact record. You can also have multiple ownership of both the animal (Poss) and the Genetics (Gen).

Gen. / Poss. - Genetic / Possession - Percentage of the genetics owned vs. the possession each owner has of that animal. (Example: The ranch where you bought your bull chose to retain 20% semen interest but gave you full possession of the bull.  Your Gen. / Poss. entry would be 80%/100%.)

Grouping cattle by owner

Smart Groups are the best way of managing cattle by owner. You will create a new Smart Group for each owner by going to the Cattle Tab > New Group. After providing a name, such as "Ken's Herd," leaving group type as Smart Group then clicking Create Group, you will be taken to a screen where you can specify the criteria for this new group. Select the appropriate owner then save your changes. Repeat these steps to create a separate Smart Group for each owner.

Reporting by owner

Start in the Report tab > Report > choose a report. While viewing your report, click Edit Report > Criteria > and select the previously created Smart Group (see above) for the owner you want to view on the report. You may want to create separate reports for each owner to avoid having to change the criteria each time you run the report.
